US Poker Sites

US poker sites are just like any other online poker site but with one significant difference. When the majority of the online poker industry fled the US market (thanks to the UIGES of 2006), US poker sites held true to their commitment to American poker players.

The term US poker sites does not refer to an online poker room with operations based within the borders of the United States, nor does it refer to online poker sites that only accept US players. It merely means that the online poker room provides a safe, secure and reliable destination for real money online poker players who reside in the United States.

When we say that US poker sites are “safe” and “secure”, we are talking about responsible online poker rooms. We do not mean to say that every US-facing poker site is safe and secure. Unfortunately, the fact of the matter is that not every online poker room follows the basic guidelines of responsibility. Our favorite US poker site is UB (which was formerly known as UB).

There are regulatory rules that most online poker sites abide by. Due to the current US stance on internet gambling, some US poker sites are underground operators. By underground, we mean they do not present the proper licensing and regulation that ensures security, fair gaming and proper handling of the customers’ finances. It doesn’t mean they are not responsible, per say, but it does mean there is no regulative authority overseeing the operation to ensure responsible behavior.

We do not associate ourselves with unlicensed US poker sites, nor do we promote them in any way. In fact, we highly discourage anyone from joining an unlicensed US poker site. Our goal here is to teach Americans how to seek out the most distinguished US poker sites.

Finding Good US Poker Sites

The majority of unseasoned online poker players make the mistake of looking for the best US poker bonus right off the bat. While we all love bonuses, and this should be factored into your decision, it is not the first thing to look for.

Number one, you want to scroll down to the bottom of the page and look for the licensing information. Curacao, Netherlands Antilles, Antigua and Barbuda, Isle of Man, Kahnawake, these are some examples of proper licensing jurisdictions. If you don’t see them on the front page of a US poker site, try checking the Security or Fair Gaming pages.

With this established, you can start looking for the more enticing factors of the poker room. Look for the best US poker bonus, the most suitable game variety, a Downloadable Poker Software package that meets your needs (PC/Mac/Linux compliant), tournaments and ring game takes to suit your bankroll, etc.

The fact is, only about half of the online poker industry currently accepts US players for real money game play, and of those, nearly half again are questionable as to their fair gaming practices. In our experience, we have found two US poker sites that we consider to be highly distinguished, and fit most player needs in terms of games, tournaments, bonuses, etc. They are UB (UltimateBet) and Sportsbook Poker.
